Motorbike driven medical oxygen unit

Problem:

Genrich Membranes, a NCL incubated technology and company, developed a membrane based Oxygen Enrichment Unit is a compact form with an ambition to replace oxygen cylinders in medical care installations. Specifications:

  • Weight : about 15 kg
  • Size: about 30cm x 70cm x 20cm
  • Input: air at 5 bar pressure and flow rate of 25 LPM
  • Output : Oxygen enriched air, from 24-38% O2 content. 5 LPM output.

To operate, this product needs a compressor to supply the 5 bar air flow. However, in a rural setting where electric supply is unreliable, such a device will not be of great use.

Contract details and status:

A contract value of Rs. 30,000 was signed between Genrich Membrances and Vigyan Ashram. Project has been completed.

Prototype 1

During testing we faced severe problems of vibrations as well as wearing of the rubber tires. So we had to modify further.

Here the compressor and the air tank+filtration system+OEU have been seperated so vibration problems have been minimized. Due to improved strapping system, the traction between motorbike wheel and nylon rollers has been increased and hence tire wear has reduced. Unit performs as required.
